Eventually, the girl learned that reinforcement in that context is based on her imitating her brother’s actions, no matter what he is doing. In other words, the context (her brother saying “do this” and doing something) predicts reinforcement for a particular type of response (imitation). This training allowed the behavior of imitating her brother to become a generalized operant. Her individual responses look different, but they all have the same effect in a given context.
