45.7 Phrases as Single Verbal Responses
The maximum number of movements in a single verbal response is not known. However, it is highly probable that many common phrases become single verbal responses. Examples include “at the turn of the century,” “on the table,” “to the contrary,” “notwithstanding,” and others. As a speaker becomes more sophisticated, these units may become larger and larger. In many cases, there may be no need to account for each word in a complex “sentence.”
