As a functional contextual theory, Relational Frame Theory focuses on manipulable factors in our environment and learning histories to account for language and cognition. It is hoped that taking this contextual approach will lead to useful and important methods for predicting, changing, and influencing complex human behavior.

I really love this focus on context and manipulable variables.
Currently, we have a 13 month old grandchild living with us.
The mother has an academic only background in Japanese language, and she often chatters to our grandchild in Japanese. While she uses some English when speaking to him, I am uncertain as to how he is processing the words. Since there is no current or foreseeable need for the use of Japanese, I am concerned that it may be a distraction that slows his language development in English.
