4.11 “Different” Means Slope OR Level Is Different From Prediction Line
When we ask if the actual data are different from what we would predict, we want to see if either the slope or the level is different. In the last example, the actual data weren’t different from what we predicted—they fall right along the prediction line. This is NOT a basic effect.
Are the actual treatment data DIFFERENT than what you would have predicted, given the baseline data?
Estimate the baseline slope
Extend that line into the treatment phase
Evaluate whether the slope or level of the actual treatment data are different from what you predicted
