The statement by the first analyst provides essential information for understanding and intervening effectively:

  • We are describing a repeated behavior pattern in a clear manner; we know more about how he will respond.
  • We are basing our explanation in terms of past events, giving us confidence that the target for escalation may be more than a specific person. 
  • We can be on the lookout for other behaviors and triggers for aggression to identify a response class that shares the maintaining reinforcer of avoid and escape.
