Description

To earn credit, you will be required to read the article and pass a 13-question quiz about it. You can retake the quiz as many times as needed, but you will not receive exactly the same questions each time.

Abstract

The present paper examines the relationship between the development of moral behavior and the development of verbal regulatory processes. Relational frame theory and the distinctions among pliance, tracking, and augmenting forms of rule governance are applied to the domain of moral behavior and its development, in order to identify the specific social and verbal contingencies that are responsible for an evolving moral repertoire. It is argued that moral behavior is controlled by relational and rule-following repertoires, and that these can be arranged into a rough progression: pliance, tracking, augmenting, social concern for pliance, social concern for tracking, and social concern for augmenting. Congruence with data derived from other research traditions is examined, and applied implications are explored.

To be honest, I thought this was incredibly overwritten. For a scientific article that is supposed to be ABA, they extrapolated a lot and made a lot of assumptions.

It took a few reads to get the terminology down but it was an interesting concept.

It was very beneficial learning how the place-tracking-augmenting theory compares with the Kohlbetg’s stages of moral development.

The “course” consisted of reading an article and answering questions. Not anything I couldn’t do for free. Disappointing.

I'm sorry you did not enjoy this module (we do not call anything on our site a "course"). The content and format should not have been a surprise, however, as this module is in a category called "Article Quizzes" and the beginning of the description of the product is "Read the following article and pass a 13-question quiz on it..." We try to be very transparent about what each module is. In addition, we think it's valuable for BCBAs to read the research literature and earn CEUs for verifying that they did this (e.g., by passing a quiz) and many of our customers agree. It's okay if you disagree, but if you do, I definitely would not recommend purchasing any more modules from our "Article Quizzes" category. You may prefer modules in our "Interactive Videos" and "Multimedia Tutorials" categories.

This is one of the most excessive uses of the over-complication of a behavior analytic subject. Why can't we all just get on board with stimulus equivalence and call it a day?
