3.10 Making it Manageable

The library has to break this collection down into smaller, more manageable chunks. Because patrons are usually searching the academic journals for articles on a particular topic, this mass of articles is organized by topic or subject matter.

These small chunks are subject-specific digital filing cabinets called databases. There are databases that store articles related to medicine, education, psychology, sociology, sustainability, art history, forestry, biology, and a host of other academic topics.
