2.11 When Do BCBAs Need Research?

Research helps BCBAs with many professional activities. There are many reasons professional behavior analysts need research1:

  • They have a general interest in a specific intervention or specific practice.
  • They want to find research they recently heard about.
  • They use research in the supervision of BCBA or BCaBA trainees.
  • They need research when a behavior change program is not working.
  • They use research for staff training.
  • They use research to inform their teaching activities.
  • They use research when presented with new or unfamiliar case characteristics.
  • They need research when presented with new or unfamiliar target behaviors.
  • They need research when developing manuscripts.
  • They read research before conducting new research.
  • They have a general interest in research on a specific target behavior.
