2.10 How Do BCBAs Stay Current?

There are a few research projects investigating how some professional behavior analysts stay informed about developments in the discipline.

  • In one study1, 94% of participants reported they read one particular journal to stay up to date on developments in the field.
  • In a different study2, BCBAs were asked if they were satisfied with resources available to find research from the discipline. Only 38% of the BCBA participants were satisfied with the research resources available to them. Follow up data suggest that satisfaction rating increased to only 45%.
  • Professionals with access to a university library reported conducting literature searches more frequently than their counterparts that do not have access to a university library. Access to a university library also correlated with higher satisfaction- and confidence-ratings2.
  • Time, paywalls, and lack of search skills were reported barriers to satisfaction2.
